It's so sad how her career deteriorated now that she's not the token black girl anymore. I think she's absolutely lovely.

Please explain to me how her career has deteriorated. I know she was very popular before she got pregnant and had a baby, but I think she's back now & doing well for herself (closing ceremony??)
I don't mean to be rude, I really want to know.
I've read a few articles about her.

Her career is okay now, but it's not as good as back in 2008 and 2009 when she was everywhere. I mean, look at her covers. She only had 1 cover this year, and it's completely irrelevant (Ponystep). Last year, she only had 2 covers, but they were both prestigious (i-D). Now compare that to back in 2008, when she had 4 covers, 2 of which were VOGUE UK and VOGUE ITALIA (2 of the most prestigious A-list covers), i-D (also prestigious), and Elle France (C-list). And then in 2009, she had ANOTHER VOGUE UK cover, a VOGUE US cover (This one is especially amazing considering the last model Vogue US cover was years ago), 2 i-D covers, and a Teen Vogue cover. Also, take note that her i-D cover in 2008 and one of her i-D covers in 2009 were for the September issues, which is the most important issue for a magazine.
 
I just think the fashion industry is still a bit closed minded and there are very few successful models of race out there (more asians that black models) and Joan Smalls has definitely taken her place and then some, she is becoming a favorite of Anna and other prestigious designers, like Karl, everywhere.
 
Why wasn't there a thread about her already???
Anyway, I really love her work with Burberry. I'm so glad they switched to models (ugh, remember that one with Emma Watson?:rolleyes:)

@classichic I don't think so, she had her baby quite young.

Though she's got the Burberry campaign & I see she also did some adverts for Banana Republic.
Yeah she could be around more.
And I was shocked to hear she was the first African American model to walk for Prada in over a DECADE (in 2008) :wtf:

I was about to post the same pics :)
I admire her body, but at the same time this is not something I could ever achieve, so it is not exactly inspirational in my case. She has such a narrow built, which makes her look very thin, but not bony at the slightest. So lovely :luv:

Mmm, yes, know what you mean. I'm the same, and start looking bony even at pre-skinny weights - so Jourdan's not aspirational either for me. Although damn, facially, I never realized how captivating she is.

It's actually weird, now that I think about it - I see nary a hipbone nor xylophone on her. The lack of boney-ness makes it look more... natural?
