Marilyn Monroe

well, she's not a thinspiration of course. Btw, I love her very very much because of her sexy attitude (that has nothing to do with curves...but with her face and moves...) and her being actress: I saw many films of her, and I really think she was good and talented and not only a sexy bombshell, that is the way people look at her.
ps. Her weight change in each film!!! i think because she took some antidepressant and so on...

She has an insane waist-hip ratio. I think that's part of the reason she is so iconic - it's hard to attain such a small waist with hips and breasts like she had. (I don't know her measurements) True hourglass figures are fairly rare. Kim Kardashian is going for that look - and failing.

Also, I believe she was pregnant in that "classic" white bikini picture that big girls love to tout as "ICONIC PROOF THAT CURVES ARE BEAUTIFUL".

You can see it in her eyes, she's miserable in the heavier pictures.
Hell, I'll go so far as to say she was miserable most of her life. I don't get why girls (looking at you Lindsay Lohan, Megan Fox) romanticize her to the point of worship. She's not a goddess, just an icon.
She was a symbol of her time. Now she's dead. End story.

Lol, I love how blunt you are.

As far as this thing with people wanting to make her the poster girl for the "curvy" movement with their "She was a 16!!!" bull crap, all I can say is, ignorance is bliss. She was a tiny woman and no fatty will ever have her figure. It's not even realistic. It's unfair to hold anyone up to the standard of a genetic anomally. Her figure is no more attainable for most people than a supermodel's. Peeps need to stop worrying about convincing anyone else that there is just ONE look that is beautiful and better and start worrying about working with what they have and becoming the best version of themselves. Whatever that may be. Live and let live.

TL;DR - Sorry this is so long.

This. People really do need to realise that there is not only one perfect body because everyone has different preferences. They should all just stop looking for that "Perfect body" and start taking care of theirs. I couldn't have said it better.

Megan Fox actually got rid of her Marilyn tattoo....

One ugly tattoo down, eight to go...
I kid, I kid... I have four tattoos myself, and some of hers are very tasteful... I did my research and apparently she had it removed for very good reasons, the same reasons why I frowned upon it in the first place.
Now... lets see about getting some of that facial work reversed!

I've loved her movies since I was a kid. I wrote a paper on her for a history class on 1950s gender roles/culture and I find her really interesting. Her weight fluctuated a lot due to miscarriages and attempts to have a baby. The picture of her in the white swimsuit that fatties love drives me crazy because it's such an unflattering angle. It makes her look bigger than she is. The fatties that idolize her don't seem to realize that she got a lot of flack when she was heavier. When her film "Lets Make Love" came out a lot of reviewers complained that she was fat. People think that chubby/fat was more accepted in the 1950s and use her image to argue that we should go back to that way of thinking but they're misinformed. The "curvy" fatties that post her pic and celebrate it would still have been considered chubby in the 1950s. Most of the celebrities back then had a more hour glass shape but they still had very tiny waists. If anything women were under more pressure to conform to a certain body type because they had less options and were more dependent on their husbands. Before her last film she wanted to make a comeback so she slimmed down a lot. She died before the film was finished but if you look at pictures of her on set she's way slimmer than the white swimsuit pic.

Also, @Jane loved your post. I read the Simon Doonan article too. It was really interesting. I loved that she owned so little. When I see the gratuitous amounts of shoes and clothes that today's celebrities collect it disgusts me.

I feel for her and her struggles but what the fatties have done to her image has just killed her for me. Its like, shut up with the whole size 16 is beautiful because guess what? Vanity sizing, bitches.

..I really hate vanity sizing..

Agreed. I swiftly direct them to this video. She wasn't always this small, but she certainly wasn't a size 16.

I have never once heard anything bad about her from friends/family. I just have never liked her. Audrey had more class, seemed more intriguingr didn't hurt that she was skinnier either

She had an extremely high IQ at least..

I like Marilyn Monroe, not because of her body or anything. She is no thinspiration or anywhere near how I want to look. I just like how vintage she looks in photos lol And my father absolutely adores her. So we always had pictures of her.

Actually in school in our human sexuality class we did a lot of research on her. She had a very famous true hourglass figure. Her measurements were 36-22-36. She was never a size 16. She was a UK 10 in her highest weight and that was before vanity sizing.

Even today when you get a group of men her measurements are almost always preferred. (It was really fun taking surveys in college!) And another survey we've done to the majority of men "shape" matter a lot more then weight of woman.

Oh, really? Wasn't aware she had a high IQ...

And the person who wrote that is sexist, too. I hate this "banging a married man" bullshit. It reminds me of when I hear girls hating on other girls for "stealing a man". Like guys don't have brains?

Marilyn wasn't married; he was. So why is she the evil one?

Besides, other people's marriages are really none of our business.

P.S. Not a fan myself, but wanted to make that point.

She was a size 16..? She didn't look that big when I saw her wax figure in Madame Tussauds ....

I'm definitely not a Marilyn fan but I think this is a great point--girls always find it easier to blame other girls but Marilyn or any girl in this situation isn't the one deciding to cheat so I never understood that...:wtf:
