Mona just posted this and to be quite honestly, I’m disappointed.
I’ve been following Mona for awhile now, and she’s very political on her Instagram- which is not a problem, at least not for me. Even tho she gives me a strong hippie lesbian ancap vibe, I genuinely could not care less

but today she decided to talk about her vision on lockdown, and how the lockdown is causing her depression. To start, any test is 100% reliable. So letting all people go and do whatever they want is not the a safe idea. And her explanation is so selfish and egocentric. Is not like she’s going to die tomorrow and all her life was waste. “We’re all going to die”: ok, so let other people commit homicide because we all going to die. 10 years old me could refute this crap argument.
It seems odd a girl suffering from depression because she is stuck in her house while she was traveling constantly past year, and just came back from a trip to Egypt. And is not like she lose her only financial source, or is about to get kicked out of her tiny apartment or getting food out of the trash to feed her and her children- because that’s what lockdown is causing to people worldwide. And yet is saving their lives in a way

that’s just another vent on why I think models should at least finish high school: to avoid those sort of stupidity

She’s posted some things that are pretty anti-vax on her story today :nopity:
The second posts sounds like the things that Doutzen would spew.

I am in no way anti-vax and I think vaccines are one of the most important (though eroding) infrastructures of public collaboration. I also think Mona seems to have extraordinarily vapid takes and to be the kind of person I find insufferable i.e. who thinks they alone see The Truth.

That being said I do not think that collectively dunking on people who are anti-vax is the most effective way to change opinions (and many people I know who publicly dunk on anti-vaxxers seem not to have read anything on vaccination themselves). More of my ire is directed towards the private pharmaceutical industry which does in fact engage in many practices that reasonably warrant suspicion and distrust (though that of many anti-vaxxers often seems ill researched).

I 100% agree with this. I don’t have anything bad to say about anyone who is weary of the COVID vaccine. Although I got vaccinated for the sake of easier overseas travel, I personally didn’t want to get vaccinated for a year or two just to see how the vaccine effected (or didn’t effect) people later on.

My issue is with those like Mona who obviously haven’t done adequate research but sit here and try to skew other people’s opinions. That doesn’t sit right with me and robs people that idolize her of an open mind.

The problem is she, like a lot of anti vaxers and COVID deniers, think that she has done adequate research. Many of them genuinely believe that they’re the only ones who are capable of critical thought and it’s people like us (or “sheeples” as they love to call us lol) who are ignorant because we just blindly accept everything the main stream media and pharmaceutical companies tell us.

I don’t understand why she would even post this in the first place. Surely she’s at least aware that her opinion is controversial. Why post something that you know could potentially be career damaging?

I feel like so much of this ignorance is a result of being so separated from the consequences of the diseases that used to ravage us just a few generations ago, resulting in a false sense of security and authority from people who have no idea what they're talking about or getting into. These anti-vaxxers haven't seen the way children suffered from polio or watched a baby die from whooping cough or someone spasm/suffocate to death from tetanus and think that because these diseases have been all but eradicated in the Western world (thanks to vaccines), that we can go back to "relying on nature" and reject modern medicine.

I'm certainly critical of the way that major pharmaceutical companies are run and their desire for profits over all else and I do also practice some forms of Ayurvedic medicine, but I'm not stupid enough to romanticise nature and natural remedies as a benevolent cure-all for disease and injury. Covid is "natural", polio is "natural" but apparently forming cures to these diseases is not? I'm so tired of idiots having a platform to spread this harmful misinformation and stupidity and then play the victim when people get annoyed at them about it.

Honestly, I am unsure about the consequences, it feels like people are getting accustomed to seeing others writing shit all over social media. Also, don't forget a ton of people from the industry agree with her...

This is my biggest issue with her in current situation. I don't mind her being suspicious and cautious about the vaccines, it's her overall attitude that boils my blood. She talks too much for my taste. For example, although diet plays role in preserving health, there are situations where we can't help just by a good diet. And natural medicine "arguments" lol. Firstly, the premise that modern medicine abandoned all "natural" is grossly false. And secondly, the idea some people try to push, that everything from nature is good, isn't harmful at all, is way more gentle to the body, safer and can be easily used is also false.
Not directly vaccine related, but let's keep in mind that the main problem with using active substances from plants is economic profitability. It's nice when you discover a new substance, but it happens that you'll also need 600 trees to heal a person. Realistic? No. Also, Mona, you do not have a PhD in Pharmacognosy in case you forgot. Suggesting natural medicine and plants? But honey, you aren't doctor nor pharmacist (and you never will be). In addition, I bet her "logic" is along the lines of "substances from Belladonna are used to dilate the pupils when getting an eye test and for some other things as well, that means it's safe and I can eat it's leaves and berries".

Sooo true. It's easy to be against something when you currently aren't in the need for it. :whistling:

That’s a good point. I doubt she will be “cancelled” as a result but it might have the potential to affect future bookings. Its also not just what she said about COVID but also how she lashed out when people criticised her. She comes across as not only dumb, but easily provoked/hot headed. She clearly doesn’t think about what she posts before posting it. And probably doesn’t listen to her agent who presumably told her to watch what she posts on social media. Stupid + immature + unpredictable = big red flag lol.

I don't get why you're all being so bitchy about Mona's research. Are you jealous because you don't know your shit also? I was already impressed with her body before but I had no idea about her extensive medical background. How many of you were conducting clinical trials at 18?
