I think old tiny-skinny Queen Gemma would have been the perfect cast for the role of Daisy Buchanan, though. Portrayed by Carey Mulligan the character didn't seem to be worth the hype at all. Gemma as Daisy would have totally justified it.

I would have loved to see how she could do as Daisy, but Carey is an Academy Award nominee and an A-lister whilst Gemma is a former model the public has most likely never even heard of before. Considering that the film was a huge production, I don't think Gemma even had the chance, or that the producers would risk casting a relatively unknown actress.

And because of this, Gemma really really needs to come back to modeling, it's simply what she's best at. I hope this does not remain just a dream.

I have to admit I didn't know much about Gemma until recently, and I'm normally a fan of models with more angular faces, but she shows the power a baby face can have , she has very strong eyes with the capacity to be seductive. Ofcourse, a rounder face needs a skinny body

Her future baby hit the genetic jackpot, two model parents. And one of them is Queen Gemma.
But considering the low profile Gemma has had all these years, I don't expect many photos, or any at all, of her child.

You know, as much as I was curious about a comback of hers, I hope that maybe she just focuses on motherhood and acting and whatever else instead of letting expectations down.
She really was something special, universally lauded and loved but when she stopped being on her A-game she became so mediocre.
I mean this doesn't even look a little bit like the Gemma Ward everyone fell in love with.

I think this is the second time she's said she'd be returning to modelling (first one was in 2010 I believe?), and to me, it seems that her heart is just not in it anymore.
Even though she was just a baby when she started and was last prominent when she was 20, she achieved a lot and was fantastic while it lasted. Honestly, maybe it would be best if she moved on and found peace with starting a family or whatever else will fulfill her.
Anyway, best of luck to her with her pregnancy. I do find it interesting though that it's been officially announced so late into it (she's already 6 months in), especially since her comeback was so hyped earlier this year.

So true. She was breathtaking when she was skinny, but it looks like she doesn't have her heart in modeling anymore- first acting, now pregnancy... It takes a lot of hard work to stay at the top (Snejana, Valda, Kasia), but it doesn't seem like she has what it takes to make it a long-time career. Plus her beginnings were so spectacular that it will be hard for her to match up to that ideal, and anything less than that will be a disappointment. It takes a lot of control to stay skinny over a long time and work as a model, and if she's struggling, then maybe it'd be healthier for her mentally to just concentrate on something else. I absolutely adore her and have a soft spot for her, so if she's happier doing something else (

Yeah, exactly. Also, Snej, Vlada, Kasia etc. are pros at keeping themselves skinny well into their late 20s - and have done so very consistently. Gemma was 14 when she started, 20 when she gained all that weight - I think she is way behind the pack with learning how to do the whole skinny maintenance thing because a) it was probably way easier for her at her peak than it would be now and b) she wasn't even the skinniest of the skinny and I think her size had more to do with her being in her teens than her work ethic with that regard (not like Snej who you can tell *worked* for it). You can especially tell if you track her runway appearances each year and see her gradually, progressively "fill out".

Gemma has a ton of great eds and she has worked in most of the best publications with the best photographers so it's incredibly difficult to decide but I think the Swarovski-clad Gemma in Vogue India, shot by Patrick Demarchelier wins the cake:
Styling, photography, model... All breathtaking.
Not to mention that it was the first issue of Vogue India (and the Queen was on the cover, of course!)
