Everyone already knows I’m no Kaia stan, and I have zero desire to rehash my little tantrum from a few months ago
but she’s definitely being cast like a supermodel would be, no?
I definitely don’t disagree that red lipstick and dramatic eyes usually looks good on most models, but I do disagree with the idea that models should look good in anything. For a couple of reasons:
There are so many different types of models who have different fortes. For example- if you put Marjan Jonkman in a swimsuit ad, I’m not sure that would look good- nor would anyone expect it to.
On a styling level, I’ve seen so many horrific “creative” and “artistic” editorials that the model definitely did not look good in. Or the makeovers at Alexander Wang’s shows... the insane haircuts may have worked for Peyton Knight and Katie Moore, but I don’t think anyone would expect Grace Elizabeth, for example, to look good in a bowl cut.
I’m rambling here, but you get the idea.
I somewhat agree, but I meant models should look “good” as in looking how they’re supposed to.
classic look —> look beautiful
edgy —> look captivating
Also always healthy / sans obvious flaws (i.e. eye bags the MUA will have to cover, fat thighs that will cause trouble for the wardrobe assistants, or looking “dead inside”.)
Maybe it’s not entirely her fault... she’s being cast in absolutely everything and the majority of it feels so wrong for her. Par exemple, I found this to be a particularly confronting, borderline disturbing image.
Same with this:
My reaction was not dissimilar to when I watched
Dogtooth upon its first release - i.e. “I’m so confused, I’m not ready for this, the world is not ready” (best friend growing up had film producer parents = we were left alone to watch a LOT of weird art films. Pardon the hyperbole but few were as bad as this Vogue cover).
Sidenote, but a supermodel like Vlada would look incredible in any of the scenarios you mentioned:
Ok, I sound like an obsessed bitch. I promise I waste no time thinking about her except when I go shopping and see her face in every store. It just gets annoying.
